What is an R.H.N.?

A Registered Holistic Nutritionist (R.H.N.) is a nutrition expert trained at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Their purpose is to educate individuals about the benefits and health impact of optimal nutrition. They are qualified to design personalized nutrition and lifestyle programs that optimize health and wellness.

A holistic approach looks at the person as a whole (body, mind and spirit) and accentuates personal responsibility for health. Holistic Nutritionist’s recognize that each individual is biochemically distinct and has unique nutritional requirements. They thoroughly assess their client’s diet, health history, emotional state, environment and lifestyle habits in order to identify the root cause(s) of their symptoms and restore balance in the body. They often work alongside other professionals such as naturopaths, homeopaths, RMTs and chiropractors to best serve their client’s needs.

What is a Red Seal?

A Red Seal, formally known as the Interprovincial Standards of Red Seal Program, is a highly prestigious, universally recognized designation of apprenticeship in Canada. It is an endorsement of knowledge, skills and years of experience that apprentices have acquired in their chosen trade.

The Red Seal Program was established to standardize training and certification requirements across Canada. There are currently 57 designated Red Seal Trades which includes baking and cooking. To obtain the Red Seal Certification for cooking, an apprentice must be signed under a Certified Chef along with a 3-year formal apprenticeship program. This consists a minimum of 5000 hours of work experience and 180 hours (6-weeks) of technical training each year. They receive their designation upon passing both practical and written exams. Another route for those who have significant work experience (over 8000 hours) in a trade is to challenge the Red Seal Exam.
