33 — the number of the bus where my accident hap

33 — the number of the bus where my accident happened and has caused me pain and trauma for over 2 years. For awhile, everytime I saw that bus, anger would build up inside me. My counsellor adviced me to associate the number with something else. So I did.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I grew up Catholic and became a Christian at age 15. After the accident, I ran away from my faith and I lost myself. The only thing good I can associate with the number 33 was knowing that it was at that age that Jesus died for me - that I am loved and forgiven just as I am - anger, blemishes, shortcomings, failures and all. As I thought about this fact whenever I saw the bus, the anger within slowly diminished.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For a long time, whenever I heard any bus beeping, I would get shaken up inside and anxiety would take a hold of me. But as each day passes, the trauma becomes less and less and I become stronger and stronger.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, I turned 33 and that number nor that particular bus no longer has a hold on me. I am free and I’m continuing my ministry — to feed the hungry both physically and spiritually. I know I was born to cook and there’s nothing else I’d rather do but cook nutritious foods for life.

I can’t go back to who I was but I’ve learned to love myself where I’m at now. I may be a little different but aren’t we all evolving?
