Today marks my 3 Year Anniversary of the bus accid

Today marks my 3 Year Anniversary of the bus accident that caused me pain and trauma.

Though the physical injuries seemed minor from the outside, I suffered from neck, back, leg and foot pain, predominantly on the right side of my body. I was ridden with anxiety and experienced a lot of heart palpitations. Anger consumed me and depression became my best friend.

The community I thought I had for support became non-existent. My self-worth also left with them. My life had become a series of appointments with physiotherapists, massage therapists, podiatrists, acupuncturists, doctors, counsellors and lab technicians.

I kept a smile on my face so I didn’t have to talk about it but deep down inside I was slowly dying. I took a break from consulting because I had to help myself first before I can support others.

Even though this date has an unpleasant memory attached to it, I decided to shift the focus from the accident and loss to the healing and lessons learned.

Today, I am able to celebrate overcoming barriers and my healing journey! I am thankful for what I have gained through it: self-worth, mental health + pain management skills, the love for yoga + stretching and being able to enjoy the simple things in life. I’m thankful for the support of my family, health care practitioners and new friends I made along the way.

Because I have experienced it myself, I don’t want anyone else to go through it alone. In my holistic nutrition practice, I now specialize in helping others who are suffering from anxiety, depression and chronic pain due to past trauma.

We’re never meant to walk through life alone. Find like-minded people and health care practitioners who can support you in your healing journey.

Here’s a poem I wrote to help me cope with all that’s going on these days:

“Emotions may overwhelm; it’s okay to cry.
Don’t forget to look up at the sky.
This time may bring upon sorrow,
But there’s still hope for tomorrow.

The sun will shine after the rain,
There will be healing after the pain.
Don’t let the dark clouds steal your joy,
Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed.”

Although we may be restricted, there’s beauty in each day. Take a moment to notice. Write them down if you need to. Look in the mirror, see how beautiful you are! Get an accountability partner to help remind you. Together, we can thrive. We are still alive so we have to make the most of it!

𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛

When I went gluten-free and dairy-free to heal my gut back in 2013, I didn’t think I’d ever bake bread again, let alone be able to enjoy it without feeling sick.

Even though my gut is okay now, I choose the gluten and dairy that I consume wisely. I feel my best when I don’t eat a lot of it but it feels good to know that I can eat it if I wanted to.

I choose to eat sourdough bread once in awhile. As a holistic nutritionist who’s had gluten sensitivity, out of all the breads one can eat, homemade sourdough and Ezekiel bread are my top choices.

Choose wisely and enjoy the food you eat!
